![]() I recently went to a CS-1000, and I love the performance and scalability of the Nimble solutions. This is partly why Nimble units are so stable. InfoSight allows then to monitor that across their customer base that is using early access code. They also track all the various customer configurations.they don't release new major versions until it has hit 1,000,000 hours in the field. They use it to spot issues in the field before they become noticable. ![]() I feel like the big advantage of InfoSight isn't what it tells the customer, but what it tells HPE. I mostly want to know is my array fast enough, and am I going to run out of CPU, cache, or capacity any time soon. That looked like you can slice and dice your statistics and reporting just about any way the administrator of a large enterprise storage environment could want. I recently say the latest Dell Storage reporting and management tool.don't remember what it's called. I think I got a call from them when we lost a UPS and hence one of the power supplies. InfoSight would certainly alert support of a failed component. I like the tech installing replacement drive and even controller on my EqualLogic, but didn't buy that on the NImble as it didn't seem worth it for our remote datacenter as it is only an hour away from the main office, and 30 minutes from one of our guy's home. I think I had 1 drive die maybe, and I think it was DOA. I have had very few calls.mostly around not noticing that I was missing jumbo frames somewhere. OTH, the phone calls to support were dicey some times. The Dell's tech would even replaced the HDD for me. How do you like the Infosight's analytics and Nimble's support? I used to get calls from Compellent telling me that they noticed a HDD was dead and the replacement would arrive in couple of hours. ![]() I read your 2015 post on the CS300 and the 2017 update.Good reading. That was the best time to get an order in. HPE quarter just ended on Friday, January 27, 2018. More powerful than my existing CS300, which is a step above it in the platform tier, but a generation behind. The CS1000 should be pretty nice little units. The method for doing the migration would be to connect your existing cluster to Nimble, add datastore(s), and then do a Storage vMotion on your VMs to move them over. I just bought two more Nimble units which will allow me to either completely retire my EqualLogic, or at least relegate it to storing my backups. EqualLogic is slightly easier to do initial configuration on, but Nimble is much faster, cheaper to expand, and much more stable. EqualLogic is build on ARM processors that don't have enough power to do compression on primary data, and uses 15 MB page sizes which are great for performance on disk but murder on snapshot efficiency. Nimble is a full technology generation newer built for flash and the power that comes with Intel processors. It was really fantastic technology - 10 years ago. ![]()
